Full Job Description

We have a number of vacancies for Firefighter Control operators. The role involves handling emergency '999' calls, obtaining accurate information from the caller and taking appropriate action to mobilise Fire Service resources using the IT systems provided. You will also work closely with other agencies & will liaise with fire crews and officers to assist in the continued management of the incident. Firefighter Control operators provide an important service to the public and are a critical department within the Fire Service. All roles operate on a rotating shift basis with day, night and weekend working. Full training and uniform will be provided.

The role involves working under significant pressure and suitable candidates will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm, ask relevant questions to obtain information from members of the public, other emergency services and external agencies. The following skills and attributes are essential:

  • Effective communications skills, including verbal, written and listening skills.

  • The ability to make effective decisions.

  • Committed to learn new skills - often complex information within a short period of time and achieving high standards
