Full Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer at Coney Weston Parish Council. This post is working from home with attendance at bi-monthly evening meetings. Currently the council meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7pm, additional extraordinary or planning meetings may be called.

  • Additional hours may be required at times upon agreement.


  • Internet and phone access are required. Must be able to store council files securely at your home address. A printer and laptop will be provided., The clerk provides administrative support to the council, closely supports the Chair in the running of meetings and advises the council on policy and legislation to enable effective decisions to be made.,

  • Preparing agendas, attending meetings, taking minutes, advising Councillors on procedural and legal matters, and progressing actions, as well as keeping policies and procedures under constant review

  • Working with Council members, liaising with stakeholders such as district and county councils, members of the public and other bodies

  • Implementing Council decisions made at meetings

  • Handling all incoming and outgoing correspondence and acting as a point of contact for residents

  • Administration of Parish Council finances, including financial monitoring and reporting, producing the annual budget, regular bank reconciliations, preparation of annual audit documents

  • Coordinating and submitting responses to planning applications

  • Providing backup support for the Parish Council website and social media sites

  • Ensuring deadlines for audit, insurance renewal, precept requests, policy reviews etc are met

  • An understanding of Local Government would be preferred but training will be provided if necessary.

    We are seeking someone who is resourceful, well organised and committed to improving the community. You will need to have enthusiasm and tenacity, along with a continued willingness to learn. Diplomatic skills along with the ability to communicate at all levels is essential. Language and numerical skills are also important as is working experience of Microsoft Word and Excel.


  • A Clerk (CiLCA) qualification, experience of working in local government and living in or close to Coney Weston would be advantageous but not essential., A willingness to learn and an ability to work independently are also essential. Ideally candidates will be willing to commit towards achieving a CiLCA qualification.
