Full Job Description

About the Job: We are seeking a Personal Assistant/Support Worker for a lady with a diagnosis of Downs Syndrome living in the Deganwy area. You will form part of a small team and will be required to assist her in remaining healthy and active and accessing activities within the community.

Responsible to: You will be directly responsible to the employer/parent

Main Tasks:

Accompanying on active walks; help may be required to put on boots and advice on clothing.
Encouraging and participating with new activities, such as swimming, some support may be needed with showering, hair drying/combing, making clothes tidy in locker/opening afterwards and guidance where to change.
To accompany, encourage and participate in activities such as shopping trips and coffee meetings.
The cost of any refreshments or activity charges will be covered by the employer.

General responsibilities:

You will be required to pick up and drive to activities, so a driver and car owner are essential. Mileage to be paid at a mutually agreed rate.
The cost of any activity charges will be covered by the employer.
Care and supervision required when getting out of a car and when crossing roads.
Supporting clear communication
No personal care involved but prompts for hygiene possible.
Assist to access the toilet in unfamiliar places.
Assist and supervise when paying for items.
Any other duties not mentioned but that fall within the scope of this role should be discussed and then mutually agreed.
Undertake any further training, as mutually agreed.

The position would suit a bright and chatty individual with a good sense of humour who enjoys outdoor activities.
Experience of working with people with special needs would be desirable.
It's important to be trustworthy, kind, and able to respect privacy and confidentiality.
To be punctual, reliable and have some degree of flexibility, with a view to increasing hours over time, or to cover absence of other care team members.
