Full Job Description

The Capital Programme team is responsible for the core delivery of the Council's c.£60m/year Capital Programme developing projects which make a real 'on the ground' difference to our communities, places and people in Westmorland and Furness. On a daily basis the programme develops and maintains new council buildings including care homes, schools, community centres and offices; construct's and maintains highways and cycleways; builds new flood defences and drives the council's decarbonisation programme for its services.
This role will support the Capital Programme team by helping to provide programme, planning and cost monitoring support to the annual highways maintenance programme delivered by the sustainable transport and highways service., We are currently operating both in-person and virtual interviews. Options will be discussed with candidates once they have been invited to the interview stage of the process for this specific position, and if you have any concerns or adjustments are needed, we are happy to discuss.
If you are invited to a virtual interview, this will preferably be undertaken using the Microsoft Teams software, which is currently free for new users, however if there are any issues with accessing this technology, we are happy to discuss alternative arrangements prior to the interviews.

We are looking for a self-reliant and driven individual who has some knowledge of programme management and control and a willingness to learn and work with others. Ideally the candidate will have knowledge of programme development, IT systems, procurement & cost monitoring in an organisational setting and some experience of the financial and programming aspects used in highway maintenance projects, programmes and works contracts. Candidates will be good with data and comfortable working as part of a small team and able to communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to support programme delivery.
You can expect to work in a high performing team with likeminded individuals. You can also expect high amounts of accountability and responsibility to help the whole team deliver multi-million pound projects for Westmorland and Furness Council.
