Full Job Description

We are seeking an RICS-qualified surveyor to join our Rural and Agricultural department. The ideal candidate will have recently achieved their CAAV qualification or be actively working towards their CAAV exams. This role involves providing professional advice and services to clients in the rural and agricultural property sector, focusing on valuation, land sales, utilities, grant schemes and land use matters.

Our rural team works closely with our Land & New Homes and Estate Agency teams. We have a broad existing client base, including a large number of farming clients, as well as private and public landowners and developers. We regularly advise on all aspects of planning and rural land management.,

  • Conduct valuations of rural and agricultural properties, including farms, estates and land for various purposes such as sale, purchase, taxation, secured lending and Expert Reports for court proceedings.


  • To assist in the sale and marketing of agricultural land, farms and estates


  • Provide professional advice to clients on matters related to rural property, including tenancy agreements, succession planning, and diversification opportunities.


  • Assist in the management of rural properties, including rent reviews, and the negotiation of leases and licenses.


  • To advise on rural planning matters including the potential for development or change of use, new agricultural buildings and to work alongside the Firm's Planning Department based in the Horley Office.


  • To advise landowners on compulsory purchase projects and in particular utility work


  • To deal with rural grant applications including CSS & SFI and other emerging schemes and to assist with the emergence of BNG and other Natural Capital Schemes


  • Prepare reports and presentations for clients, providing clear and concise information and recommendations.


  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation, regulations, and market trends affecting the rural and agricultural property sector.


  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, and other professionals in the industry.

  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Rural and Agricultural department, including the identification of new business opportunities.

  • RICS-qualified with a strong understanding of rural and agricultural property matters

  • Recently CAAV-qualified or actively working towards CAAV exams.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and find practical solutions to challenges.

  • Proficient in the use of relevant software, such as Microsoft Office and property valuation tools.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and flexible approach to work.

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.

  • Willingness to travel to visit properties and meet with clients as required.


  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
