5 ways to motivate your team

5 ways to motivate team

Any manager struggles occasionally to keep their team focused and excited about the projects they’re working on.

That’s why it’s important to think outside the box and come up with new ways to motivate employees.

It’s all very well giving an inspirational pep talk in the canteen but sometimes workers need to be able to see more practical changes and tangible opportunities.

Here are five ways to keep spirits up:

Offer Rewards

The promise of a reward, whether it’s a cash bonus or an extra day off, can often motivate even the most apathetic workers. Even better, the rewards system can also benefit you as an employer.

For example, if your workplace can be a potentially hazardous environment, combat this and keep your 100% safety record by providing team rewards for maintaining a safe work environment.

Give Compliments

Even the most hardnosed employees never tire of hearing good words about their work. Their appreciation increases if they’ve been working especially hard.

So, if a member of your team has done a good job, don’t be shy about letting them know – you’ll leave them feeling accomplished and ready to take on even more.

Provide Personal Space

A busy workplace can sometimes be an uncomfortable place to work over extended time periods, so make sure your team has a quiet, welcoming space to take a break and properly relax.

Studies have shown employees who must contend with poor working conditions become stressed. Conversely, they show people are more relaxed and work harder in an environment where they don’t mind spending time.

Healthy Competition

The emphasis here is on the ‘healthy’, as we all know what monsters we can turn into when our competitive streak is unleashed.

Plan your competition around a work-related goal and split your staff into teams so it’s not about individuals.

Create Visual Goals

Most people are visual learners and will forget the majority of things said to them, if it’s not written down and highlighted.

So, if you’re having a strategy meeting or planning that day’s operations, draw up visual boards.

This way your team will have images in their heads to recall and refer to throughout the day.
