Full Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency's Engineering and Technical Assurance team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Working within our Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to ensure we have safe, reliable and sustainable assets. Review, develop and maintain the organisation's safety codes of practice for electrical safety. Review, develop and maintain our electrical engineering standards and design handbooks for our electrical systems and equipment across a wide range of assets, which include distribution, motor control systems, lighting and power systems, renewable energy sources. Review, develop and maintain our instructions and guidance for electrical safety maintenance, complementing our approach to asset performance, reliability and health. Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment. Develop and deliver our electrical engineering standards and instructions to ensure we meet our commitment to net zero carbon. You will be required to hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours. The team You will join the MEICA Engineering Standards team in Engineering & Technical Assurance, part of the Asset Management and Engineering department, within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. The team has a varied role providing technical standards, management, and leadership across a range of mechanical, electrical and control system activities across the organisation. The team are dispersed but have a strong identity, regularly linking together to collaborate within the team and across the business.
Through experience to date, you should be able to demonstrate most of the following:
- A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
- Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
- Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
- Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
- Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
- Strong understanding of a risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and forge strong relationships.
- Excellent communication skills are a must for this role as you'll be liaising with other teams on a regular basis.
