We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Sustainable Places Team. As a planning advisor, you will play a vital role in managing the Environment Agency's interaction with the Town & Country Planning process, supporting the team to manage planning consultations from Local Planning Authorities and developers across the Area. Your main responsibilities will include coordinating and screening planning applications and enquiries received from Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) and developers, logging this caseload onto our dedicated system. You will also be responding to pre-development enquiries, low risk consultations, and administering our chargeable advice service. Providing a positive planning service to our customers and building effective relationships with our internal consultees. The team The Sustainable Places team is our first point of contact for Local Planning Authorities. They manage our input into the Town & Country planning system, through development management and planning policy. The teams engage with and influence local planning authorities and developers so that development takes account of flood risk, protects the water environment and is resilient to the challenge of climate change, whilst also securing the best possible environmental outcomes through the planning system.

  • A willingness to learn new things and take on information quickly
  • Proven time management and organisational skills
  • An ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent customer services skills, and an ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences
  • A positive, approachable, and enthusiastic attitude, with a drive to seek new innovative ways of working.
  • There is no requirement for your background to be in the planning sector as this role is entry level. We are looking for individuals with transferable skills and a drive to secure positive outcomes for the environment.
