Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our current service with in the surgical emergency assessment unit at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for an administrative assistant to support the unit Monday - Friday. You will be the sole administrative advisor for the unit with the support of your senior nurses and unit manager., To work as part of the SEAU team supporting them with admissions and discharges onto the trust database. You will be required to carry out basic orders of stock, case note filing, working with surgical secretaries to ensure follow up appointments are being followed through. You will work indirectly with the patients yet supporting the unit to ensure future appointments are made. You will also support the unit manager with meeting arrangements, staffing study sessions and any other small tasks that may require your support., Clinical

  • Ensure privacy and dignity of patients is maintained at all times.
  • Minimise risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors by working according to risk management policies.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff to their duties and the ward routine.
  • Assist in measurement of care by contributing to data collection for quality metrics.
  • Work to eliminate avoidable infection by working according to infection control policies.
  • Clerical
  • Maintain accuracy and legibility of patient records in accordance with trust policy.
  • Input and update data on the computer system.
  • Maintain accurate case note tracking.
  • To file all patient information accurately in health records.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Ensure accuracy in giving and receiving messages.
  • Booking patient transport.
  • Making outpatient appointments.
  • Chasing investigations.
  • Collecting health records, patient results and pharmacy items.
  • Dealing with ward mail and other correspondence.
  • Co-ordinate the ordering of NHSP staff at the discretion of Department Manager and Deputy.
  • Other clerical duties such as photocopying and faxing.
  • Assist with maintenance or stores and equipment with careful stock control.
  • Communication
  • To greet patients with a welcoming and informative approach.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the team.
  • Ensure all patients are treated in a kind and courteous manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
