Full Job Description
You will hold responsibilities in the development and delivery of a high-quality specialist nursing service for patients who are misusing alcohol. The main purpose of this role is to ensure effective trust wide identification of patients with alcohol disorder (AUD), to provide face to face patient interactions that nurture the patient partnership and develop a shared patient centred goal, support optimal management during inpatient admissions, and facilitate timely and appropriate discharge into the care of community services as appropriate.
The post will be based within the Emergency Department of the Royal United Hospital Bath and within the Vulnerable adults Team, working with patients at the front door and those who are inpatients. It is envisaged that the post-holder will develop a high degree of autonomy and have close links to; local community drug and alcohol services, accident and emergency and acute medicine, + To continue the already established high quality alcohol liaison service at Royal United Hospital, developing inpatient and outpatient services for patients with alcohol related health problems
+ To ultimately reduce re-admissions, relapse and bed occupancy for this patient group.
+ To generate and maintain excellent communication links between inpatient, outpatient, psychiatric, community and primary care services.
+ To maintain / improve / update robust alcohol withdrawal protocols for use within both inpatient and outpatient settings
+ To work closely with Accident & Emergency to provide early intervention for alcohol abusers.
+ To provide education for health professionals
+ To be involved in high quality audit and research in the field of alcohol misuse
