The School:
Our aim at Selston High School is to inspire every member of the school community to achieve their full potential and enjoy their time with us. As a caring community school we recognise the importance of our values which include respect for all, trust, pride, recognition and celebration of success.
The role:
We are looking for an inclusive, student focused, resilient, emotionally literate person to work as part of a small team, together with the current Ambition Coordinator, to support students at risk of permanent exclusion from school to remain in education and/or training.
The role will involve delivering some one-to-one or group sessions with the students who are following an alternative curriculum pathway. These may be sessions addressing behavioural, social or emotional issues or they may be bespoke lessons to deliver aspects of the curriculum. We are keen to play to the strengths of the successful candidate so would be interested in hearing about what areas of the curriculum you believe you could deliver as part of your application.
It will also involve monitoring off site provision, meeting with parents and teachers regarding the provision for the young person and organising day trips and other relevant activities.
The person:
You will be patient and caring and able to quickly form excellent relationships with vulnerable young people and their parents/carers. You will have a creative and optimistic approach to re-engaging these young people. You will need boundless energy, a good sense of humour and a strong sense of social justice. You will be accountable, together with the Ambition Coordinator, for the attendance, behaviour and outcomes of the small cohort of students you are working with.
In return for hard work, dedication and commitment to these vulnerable young people you will receive good quality, on-going CPD, excellent support from the Student Support Centre and the Pastoral team and opportunities to develop your own skills in teaching or small group work.
The successful candidate will have some background working or volunteering in schools, youth work, social care or with vulnerable young people in other contexts. They will also have an awareness of safeguarding when working with vulnerable young people.
