Job Overview

Education Boutique is seeking an experienced tutor (or team of tutors) to provide in-person tuition to a disengaged learner with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The student requires support in English, Maths, and Science at Functional Skills/GCSE level.

This role requires trauma-informed teaching experience and the ability to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ASD, ADHD, EBSA, and PDA. The ideal candidate will be patient, caring, and engaging, helping to reintroduce structured learning while being mindful of the student's past traumas.

Tuition Schedule (Fixed Days & Times - Not Flexible)

  • Monday: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

(Starting at 3 hours per week, increasing gradually to 8 hours.)

Student Profile

  • The learner has been out of school since January 2024 but is working at age-expected levels.
  • Tuition is required in English and Maths at GCSE level and Science at Functional Skills level due to gaps in knowledge.
  • The student has a history of school disengagement, an EHCP (issued March 2024), and has faced multiple mental health-related hospital admissions.
  • While she can be volatile and struggles with emotional regulation, she aspires to become a support worker and work with children in the future. The focus is on helping her gain qualifications to achieve this goal.
  • The role is strictly for tuition (not mentoring or therapy), and school staff will provide background information on behaviours to be aware of.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching English, Maths, and Science (either as one educator or a team).
  • Strong background in trauma-informed teaching and working with SEMH & SEN learners.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours and build a trusting relationship over time.
  • Commitment to in-person teaching - online tuition is not an option for this role.
  • Must be self-employed and able to commit to the agreed schedule.
