Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become an apprentice respiratory physiologist within Clinical Investigations Unit (CIU).

The successful applicant will be supported to gain their degree and attend Sheffield Hallam University on a block release basis. Whilst working in the ClU the successful apprentice will learn and gain competencies in sleep, spirometry, Fractional exhaled Nitric oxide (FeNo), full lung function and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).

For trainees covered by paragraph 2(iii), where periods of training last
for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows:
(i) up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay
band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training:
70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;
(iii) more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training:
65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
(iv) more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the
pay band maximum for the qualified rate.

For apprentices covered by paragraph 2(iii), where periods of training last

The successful applicant will study at Sheffield Hallam. When not at Uni you will be working full time within CIU undertaking diagnostic tests learning competencies and providing excellent care to our patients. This is a 3 year course and you will gain your BSc (Honours) in Healthcare Science - Respiratory Physiology.

  • When not attending University the success applicant will be based at RLI but will be required to undertake part of their duties at Furness General Hospital (FGH) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in order to ensure patients received their tests in a timely manner.

    We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

    FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

    WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

    All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
