Full Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner alongside the Occupational Therapy team on the Older Peoples wards at the Campus for Ageing and Vitality. The service provides care for patients on a functional ward (Akenside) and organic ward (Castleside).

This is a full time post working under the direction of the qualified Occupational Therapists. You will assist the Occupational Therapists to plan, design and deliver therapy and activity within the objectives of the treatment plan. In addition there will be opportunities to develop skills through the provision of group therapy sessions as well as individually-tailored therapy sessions to service users., To assist the team to meet the needs of service users and their carers by providing quality evidence based care.Advocate and maintain a philosophy of care which is person/carer centred, maintaining dignity, respect and promoting independence.Contribute, plan and implement specific Occupational Therapy interventions as detailed in the intervention plan in collaboration with service users and their carers/ families.

Develop good working relationships with community resources to maximise confidence and independence upon discharge.

To use de-escalation skills when working in potentially antagonistic, hostile and emotive clinical situations to ensure the safety of self, service users and others.

To communicate effectively and feedback both verbal and written information.

Participate in multi-disciplinary reviews, daily reviews and handovers.

Manage own time within the requirements of the service and priorities.Prioritise workload effectively with support and supervision.Prepare materials or treatment areas to support the delivery of care.Facilitate recovery/wellbeing focused intervention plans with service users.

You will require excellent communication, time management and organisational skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
