Full Job Description
The At Home Library Service delivers library books and resources to residents who due to poor health, disability, caring responsibilities or mobility are unable to access their local library.
- Books are selected by library staff according to the AHLS clients' tastes.
- The At Home Library Service is fundamental in ensuring that all residents in Blackpool have access to reading material free of charge.
Outline
To deliver books to the homes of At Home Library Service clients on a three weekly basis, and bring books they have read back to the library. To relay any messages from the At Home Library Service client back to the library staff.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To deliver books to 4 - 8 customers once every three weeks within a designated area of Blackpool. This is usually to the customer's doorstep, but might include taking the books inside
- To collect books chosen by library staff from the base library
- To return books no longer required by customers to the base library
- To liaise with library staff and pass on any requests for books or information required by the readers visited
- Demonstrate respect and sensitivity to all individuals and ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
- Referring the individual to the appropriate member of staff if further help is required, that is outside the remit or the boundaries of the volunteer role.
- Discuss activities with the Volunteer Officer (VO) which deviate from the tasks listed above.
- To follow the agreed activity plan.
- Follow safeguarding rules and report any concerns to the VO or library staff
- Follow infection control guidelines.
- Log your volunteer hours and submit travel expenses monthly
- Undertake training when required
Volunteers are expected to be available at a fixed time of approximately 2 hours, once every three weeks. Volunteers are needed at various times on various days throughout the week, from Monday to Friday.
