Full Job Description

  • The post holder is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for critically ill adults and post-operative patients in their care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary They will act as an effective clinical role model.

  • The Post holder will use specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post registration courses in caring for critically ill

  • The post holder is expected to supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified

  • To maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.

  • To promote excellence in nursing practice and development of high level clinical skills in Intensive care and Surgical High Dependency Unit


  • Main duties of the job

    Clinical Responsibilities :

    To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care,.

    Management responsibilities :

    To act as an appropriate and effective visible role model at all

    To act as an effective mentor and preceptor for junior staff and learner

    Leadership :

    To act as an appropriate and effective visible role model at all times with support from the ward sister / charge nurse

    Research & Development :

    To be aware of the research process and current trends. In collaboration with the senior sister participate in audit of agreed clinical guidelines of practice, policies and benchmarks within area of clinical

    Professional Responsibilities :

    To always behave in a manner that is professional, positive andThe post holder is required to act in accordance with NMC 'Code ofProfessional Conduct' with particular reference to limitations of competence and conduct.

  • 1st or 2nd level registration

    Mentorship Course

    Experience

    Essential
  • Relevant ITU experience following ITU course

  • Management experience within area of specialty

  • Mentored course members, junior nurses or student nurses


  • Desirable

    Demonstrate an insight into management issues management of change, conflict

    Skills and aptitudes

    Essential
  • Demonstrate ability to manage a group of ITU patients independently

  • Teaching and Mentoring Skills

  • Evidence of recent self-development ideally Diploma / Degree
