Are you a psychologist with an interest in inpatient mental health and a passion for bringing psychological approaches to complex systems? If so, read on! We are looking foran enthusiasticqualifiedpsychologistto join the Newham Acute Psychology Service (NAPS).Thisteamprovidespsychologicalservices to the people whoreside,workand visit Newham Centre for Mental Health (NCMH). This post is open as adevelopmental band 7 or 8a. Why work with us? You will be encouraged tobring your ideas and creativity todevelopthepsychology provision in your wards and across the unit.We are keen to develop our staff, but also to learn from staff who join us.Here are some of our current projects:

  • Relational Security and trauma-informed careimplementation.
  • Quality improvement projects (e.g. Inpatient Sexual SafetyandReducingRestrictivePractices).
  • Sensory interventionin NCMH(working alongside out therapies colleagues in OT).
  • NCMH ward climate evaluation project
  • CPDopportunities:
  • Working withourlocal specialist psychotherapy service.
  • Research opportunitiesincollaborationwith the Unit for Social and Community Psychiatry.
  • CPDtowardsa Band 8a role(if band 7 developmental role).
  • LocalSecondary Care Psychological Servicesnetwork offers opportunities for learningand connection (e.g.teaching and peer supervision sessions).
  • You will be responsible for bringing psychological approaches to two adult mental health wards (one male and one female). Our overall aim within the NAPS teamis to foster a compassionate, safe and therapeutic culture for all people within the service. You would be expected to play an activepartin planning,prioritisingand reflecting onhowbest toorganise your worktomove towards this aim. Roles will include direct interventionswith patients in group,individualand familysessions;staff support and developmentincludingteam formulations, reflectivespacesand training; leadershipofco-production,evaluationand quality improvement (QI)initiatives within your ward and across NCMH. We are looking for applicantswho bringenthusiasm and creativityaround inpatient working.Previousexperience working in acutemhservices or a considered appreciation of the role of psychology within these settings are desirable.Experienceand interestin providingculturallyinclusivepsychologicalapproachesin NHS services are alsohighlydesirable.
