Full Job Description

The post is full time, average working hours over the shift pattern 37.5 hours per week. As the post is Band 5 BMS the successful candidate is expected to undertake the IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Chemistry. The Pathology Directorate at KGH provides services to primary and secondary care across North Northants. The department has UKAS Accreditation and is well equipped with Roche Cobas 8000 analysers and the C8100 pre-analytics system. Areas of specialist interest include Fetal Anomaly Screening and HPLC.
The department has IBMS training approval, UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and encourages professional development.

This post is for currently registered BMS staff only., As a Registered Biomedical Scientist specialising in Clinical Biochemistry, you will be expected to perform a variety of complex analytical procedures on a range of clinical specimens. You will be using graduate level knowledge of Biomedical Sciences and subsequent experience in Clinical Biochemistry to ensure delivery of a quality service.
The post holder will rotate through all sections of the laboratory. This includes Automation, Manual and Fetal Anomaly Screening . It involves performing a variety of complex analytical procedures on a range of clinical specimens.
You will demonstrate skills and knowledge required including the safe handling of hazardous chemical and biological materials.
You must be able to concentrate for extended time periods to successfully complete complex investigations.
Contribute to the future development of the Clinical Biochemistry service

Candidates must be HCPC state registered as a Biomedical Scientist and it is desirable if applicants have laboratory competences gained in a clinical chemistry laboratory. An ability and commitment to work the shift system is required, participation in the 24/7 shift system, once trained, is expected and brings an additional payment at agenda for change pay rates
