Full Job Description

One of the country's leading academic schools, Queen Elizabeth's Barnet blends a distinctive heritage and proud traditions with an innovative, forward-looking approach to providing a state education like no other to more than 1300 boys aged 11-18.

We are looking to recruit a Caretaker to join our highly effective, supportive and well-led Facilities Management team.

The role of caretaker is to support the Head of Facilities Management and her team in ensuring that the school is well-maintained, safe and secure. The team works hard to provide a timely service to the School, other staff, pupils, external and community users, responding to reactive and planned activities, ensuring contractual compliance and commercial efficiencies.

The post holder should have a broad range and excellent standard of practical skills and operational knowledge and experience of Facilities Management, ideally within a School environment. All duties are to be carried out in a manner that is compliant with current Health and Safety Regulations.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and have confidence in dealing with colleagues and pupils. A positive and professional approach is essential.

Hours: 7am to 4pm or 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, during which two breaks of 30 minutes may be taken. This is a full-year post with holiday to be taken at times agreed with the Deputy Head (Operations).

Salary: Local Government Scale Point 2 - 10 (depending on skills and experience) including Outer London weighting. Actual salary of £27,345 - £30,630 per annum. Membership of Local Government Pension Scheme.

Closing date: 9am on Monday 31 March 2025. Applications will be assessed as they are received and interviews may occur at any stage during the recruitment process.

We are an equal opportunities employer. Queen Elizabeth's is a dynamic school supported by a diverse and enthusiastic community of staff, pupils, parents and alumni. It is important that our staff reflect the diversity of our community, and we therefore welcome and encourage applications from people of all genders and sexual orientation, those from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic backgrounds, and from those with disabilities.

Queen Elizabeth's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.
