Full Job Description

  • Provide practical and emotional support to parents, ensuring children remain at the centre of our practice and their voices are listened to and understood.
  • Work with individual families in their homes or other community settings, offering practical support such as home cleaning, providing transport, form filling, shopping, cooking, and making appointments.
  • Support children with positive activities, providing relief to families by helping children access community activities and assuming care and supervision for designated periods.
  • Assist in safeguarding activities by undertaking welfare visits to children and their families outside of regular hours.
  • Deliver safe and effective supervised family time, offering support and guidance to families in controlled environments.
  • Provide written reports and case recordings after each intervention, outlining support provided, any concerns, strengths, and advice given.
  • Raise any safeguarding concerns to your line manager and ensure they are reported the same day.
  • Provide signposting information and direct advice and guidance to families on child development and parenting using evidence-based practice.
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of children and families within the borough., Note: Applicants appointed to posts that require an enhanced DBS clearance must declare any periods of time that they have lived, studied or worked abroad and be prepared to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Certificate (OCRC) or a Statement of Good Conduct (SOGC) relating to anytime they were overseas.

    We are looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Casual Family Help Child and Family Support Workers. As part of the Families First for Children programme, you will support and assist in safeguarding activities for children and young people in care, in need, and at risk of harm. You will work as part of a multiagency team to provide an integrated whole-family approach to positively change family behaviours.
  • Special Conditions: Enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post. Ability/willingness to travel from location to location, including out of borough travel. Lone working within an appropriate setting, including families' homes, schools, and community settings. Working outside normal office hours, including weekends and bank holidays.,
  • Children, Young People & Families Practitioner qualification or substantial experience in a similar role.
  • A Level 3 or equivalent vocational qualifications (e.g., children and young people or communities) or experience working with children and families in various settings.
  • Proven ability to motivate children, young people, and their families.
  • Experience with creative and innovative approaches to engage vulnerable and hard-to-reach young people, children, and their families.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with children, young people, and families based on respect and openness.
  • Knowledge of child development and the needs of children and young people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and form good working relationships with young people and their families to support and motivate them to address issues creating barriers.
  • Other Essential Requirements:

  • Commitment to confidentiality and handling data responsibly.
  • Substantial experience working with children and families in a statutory setting.
