Full Job Description

To explore the barriers with recruitment and retention of staff within the childcare sector in the Vale of Glamorgan. To support the childcare sector to identify, co-ordinate and monitor workforce and training needs and assisting with the productions of key reports. About you: You will need:

  • To work directly with childcare providers around issues relating to recruitment and retention of staff
  • Liaise with local colleges/universities, schools, other organisations including Social Care Wales, Play Wales to explore training/apprenticeship opportunities and qualifications
  • Undertake and maintain an annual training needs analysis of the Childcare Sector training requirements. Create a training plan that supports mandatory training along with other CPD training to improve service delivery and effectiveness
  • Work with the Family Information Service (FIS) and Data Cymru to set up and utilise the Dewis Cymru online training booking system
  • Welsh language speaking skills Level 1 or a willingness to attend training to improve Welsh language skills to level 1.

    The Childcare team, part of the Children & Young People's Partnership, sits within the Learning & Skills Directorate of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. The team have been delivering on Childcare Strategy themes for the past 18 years including, training, delivering Childcare initiatives such as the Childcare Offer for Wales, Child Development fund as well as stablishing and distributing a range of grants to support the childcare sector. The team works in partnership with a number of partners from the Local Authority, third sector organisations, Health etc. in order to provide effective and quality outcomes for early years, childcare and play opportunities for children and their families. The Local Authority undertook its statutory duty to complete the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment in June 2022. This assesses the supply and demand of childcare, identifies the gaps in the market to plan steps in securing sufficient childcare. Workforce and training gaps are also assessed and form part of the Action Plan. The Action Plan is updated on an annual basis and a report produced to highlight all significant changes.     Pay Details: Grade 6, SCP 14 - 19, £28,624 - £31,067 (Annual salary), £14.84 - £16.10 (Hourly Rate) Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week Main Place of Work: Civic Offices, Barry with opportunity of occasional working from home Temporary Reason: 1 year funding initially
