Full Job Description
Climate and Nature Officer
- Part time role: 21 hours per week
- Salary: LC1 (SCP 13-17) £15,984-£17,061 (FTE £28,163-£30,060) + local government pension and substantial annual leave entitlement
- Contract: Permanent (subject to satisfactory completion of probationary period)
- Location: Thornbury Town Hall / Hybrid working options available
Thornbury is a historic rural market town, surrounded by beautiful green spaces and home to a strong sense of community. Responding to the climate and ecological emergency is a key priority for the Town Council. The council has declared a Climate Emergency and has created a Local Nature Action Plan to guide its work on protecting and enhancing local biodiversity. We are now looking for someone with the passion, skills and experience to help drive this important work forward.
In this role, you will progress and monitor action plans, support the development of policies, help to initiate and deliver practical projects, and advise the council on all matters relating to climate action, biodiversity, and sustainability.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of climate and nature matters, combined with excellent communication skills, as you will be working closely with councillors, community groups, local businesses, and residents. You will need to be organised, proactive, and able to manage projects independently, balancing multiple priorities and working to deadlines. There will be a requirement to attend occasional evening meetings.
In return, we offer a competitive salary, generous annual leave, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Most importantly, you’ll be joining a supportive and friendly team, all working together to make Thornbury an even better place to live.
