Full Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Academic Fellow (ST3 - 4 Level equivalent) to a 6-month fixed term post in the Respiratory Department at Mile End Hospital. The post holder will support Tuberculosis clinics and assist in the recruitment to the RID TB trial at Mile End, Newham and Whipps Cross Hospitals.

Additionally the post holder will assist in academic work including; setting up and developing existing clinic trials in particular TB trials, settin gup developing and obtaining funding for respiratory medicine based research and assisting with the training of medical and nursing staff about trial in Respiratory Medicine, GCP and data collection.

The post is for 6 months in the first instance, renewable according to mutual agreement. This would typically suit anyone wishing to pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in academic medicine either prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist Registrar training programme.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and we encourage applications from trainees currently holding a respiratory training number.MRCP or equivalent is essential.

Main duties of the job

Personal Development

The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to both service and academic work. Regular appraisal must be undertaken with the academic leads : Dr. Kunst and Dr Pfeffer.

CPD and contribution to the growth of the clinical department as a whole will be actively encouraged. The post holder is expected to maintain their personal CPD. The post holder will be subject to appraisals.

Up to 10 days study leave per year for approved bona fide CPD will be supported by the Trust. The Trust is committed to supporting CME for all non-training grades subject to locally agreed policies.

There is a modern and well-equipped Medical Education Centre on site at Whipps Cross with a comprehensive library, including Computer Assisted Learning room, lending and photocopying facilities. An intensive and varied programme of postgraduate lectures and demonstrations is provided. Up to date is provided free on line.
