Full Job Description
The post as an Clinical Fellow in General Surgery offers excellent opportunities for the successful candidate to develop laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical skills in the fields of general surgery.
The general surgery on-call will allow the candidate to gain additional experience of the management of the acutely ill surgical patient under the supervision of the Consultant Surgeon. Separate sessions are allocated to the Emergency theatre to allow the candidate to gain experience with emergency laparoscopy and laparotomy.
The post-holder's duties will be based primarily at Colchester Hospital, but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust., The post-holder will be expected to carry out ward rounds and are responsible for inpatient patient care with the consultant team. The post-holder will take part in the acute surgical on-call rota at Specialist registrar level for General Surgery.
Whilst this post will primarily involve training in general surgical procedures, there will be exposure to specialist colorectal/UGI surgeries as well as the opportunity arises. The post holder will also be exposed to basics of robotic surgery which includes simulation training and first assisting.
There will be the opportunity to be trained in upper and lower GI endoscopy depending on the previous experience of the candidate.

We are also now building a £7million specialist interventional radiology and cardiac angiography unit at Colchester.
At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There's a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children's Unit.
