Full Job Description
About the role Purpose of the Lectureships: to provide postdoctoral research opportunities for doctors in training, whose personal circumstances make it difficult or impossible for them to work full time. This will include, for example, those with family or other carer responsibilities. The Chadburn Lectureships are open to all doctors in training in Paediatrics or Renal Medicine or Respiratory Medicine or Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The scheme aims to fund up to three Clinical Lecturers who demonstrate excellent potential to be researchers of the future in a medical speciality at University College London (UCL). The call is open to clinicians who have completed their doctoral training or will have completed their doctoral training by the time they take up the Lectureship. They should also be at an appropriate point in their clinical training and should have clear plans for the completion of their specialty training (but not be at consultant level yet). Please direct all informal enquires to Sarah Mackilligin on s.mackilligin@ucl.ac.uk. About you Successful applicant will be required to meet below criteria:
- Initiate and conduct a research project (with guidance from named academic specialty lead/supervisor). Document the research findings in written form, e.g. publications in peer-reviewed journals. Attend and participate in research activities within the department. Document research findings comprehensively in laboratory notebooks. Maintain confidentiality and abide by relevant data protection rules pertaining to patient-linked data. Complete mandatory training and participate in training activities as appropriate. Provide final report to UoL at the end of lectureship, including a statement of the benefits to the lecturer and university.
About us The University of London (UoL) Chadburn Lectureships in Medicine to be held at University College London (UCL), are supported by the UoL from income from a Fund established following the sale of the South London Hospital for Women, and open to all doctors currently in training beyond FY2 and prior to CCT. The Hospital was founded in 1912 to meet the growing demand of women for medical treatment by members of their own sex; to provide, in addition to ordinary hospital beds, wards for women of limited means; and to give further scope for the postgraduate training of medical women. It closed in 1985 and a substantial portion of the sale proceeds passed to UoL. The Lectureships are named after Miss Maud Mary Chadburn who was a medical student and graduate of the UoL, and Founder of the Hospital where she was its Senior Surgeon until 1933.
