The wards provide care for people with mental health needs and dementia, and there will be opportunity to work on both types of wards if desired. OPCU is an established Care Unit and psychology is valued. We are engaged in several service development programmes. Psychologists are integral to this process, and you would support and participate in such developments.
There is a strong and developing network of Psychologists across the Trust, and within the care unit. We have relationships with professional training courses and academic institutions, which provides further research, supervision and teaching opportunities.

The inpatient wards provide hospital-based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. The wards also have links with the Dementia Outreach Service (DOS) and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).
Clinical work within the team will include providing direct psychological and neuropsychological assessment and interventions. In addition, you would support the delivery of psychologically informed care and care planning through case discussions, MDT meetings, supervision, training and consultation., The role requires a qualified Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologist who will have specialist skills for working with older people. You will work closely with service users and carers and with colleagues across the OPCU.
