JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Consultant Gastroenterologist- Colorectal Surgeon Area of work- BMSG Endoscopy Unit Job purpose To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive Gastroenterology service to patients. This will include ensuring that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of clinical governance are maintained at all times. The post holder will work closely with the Management team to ensure that relevant clinical audit is carried out, in accordance with Joint Advisory Group (JAG) and British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) guidelines. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical and ancillary team to ensure all requirements are met in accordance with JAG and BSG guidelines. Scope The post holder will be required to work flexibly to provide the Gastroenterology service. This may include working with different teams on a regular basis. Main Duties/Responsibilities CLINICAL Demonstrate delivery of high
standards of care. Maintain Joint Advisory Group in GI Endoscopy (JAG) and British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) standards in endoscopic practice Undertake Endoscopic procedures and Outpatient clinics (telephone & face to face) as per Commissioned contractual arrangements. Ensure patient is involved in decision-making regarding their care. Respect the privacy and dignity of patients and other staff at all times. Take ongoing responsibility for leading the management of patients under his/her care Participate in the development of the Gastroenterology service, treatment protocols and guidelines and the greater knowledge in the management of conditions Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and with General Practitioners and medical professionals from acute hospitals. a firm involvement in clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit, including participation in the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and
practices to ensure continuous and safe clinical practice Adhere to care pathways across the service ORGANISATIONAL Practice and promote confidentiality at all times. Demonstrate adherence to all BMSG policies and procedures. Accurately record relevant information in appropriate format. Communicate with all members of the clinical and administrative teams in a professional manner and be able to convey relevant information to and receive feedback from same. Demonstrate adherence to all Information Governance requirements MANAGING RESOURCES Demonstrates economy in use of resources. Take responsibility for the care of all equipment used. Demonstrate understanding of adherence to local and National Health and Safety policies and procedures. TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT Evidence completion of all mandatory training as required for the role.
