Full Job Description

The Consultant in Palliative Medicine will be responsible for the provision of specialist care to community, hospital, and hospice patients. The role is split between St Joseph's Hospice (STJH) and Newham University Hospital, with a 5:5 division of programmed activities per week.

The consultant will also participate in a 1 in 8 on-call rota.

There is flexibility to change & develop aspects within the hospice posts, following discussion within the consultant team.

Clinical responsibilities:
The consultants are clinically responsible for St Josephs' Hospice patients who live in City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham, which are split into two areas.

Additionally, the post holders will work at Newham University Hospital providing consultant input with the hospital palliative care
team.
The post holders will provide consultant input to weekly MDT meetings for both areas of the community team and within the hospital. They will undertake caseload reviews and carry out visits and give advice. The consultants will also provide support and leadership to the day hospice. The consultants will cross cover each other for leave.
In addition the consultants will provide cross cover to one of the wards to assist the part time consultant who covers the ward. They will also provide cross cover for the other hospice ward when that consultant is on leave and cross cover at Newham hospital when the other consultant is on
leave., The consultants each have individual managerial responsibilities overseen by the Medical Director.

In this post you will provide support for the members of the medical team working in the community.

You will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with the nursing leads in the
community team.
The post holder will act as the clinical or educational supervisor to one or more medical trainees at the hospice.

Each member of the consultant team also provides leadership to one or more areas of clinical governance, education, audit or research, as per individual interests and under direction from
the medical director.
