Full Job Description
All the consultants in the thoracic service are in the process of moving towards fully flexible job plans, to provide 42 weeks of service per year for operating lists and clinics, for which the Trust will give at least 6 weeks' notice of elective work required. The appointee will have equity with the other surgeons in the department in terms of the allocations of sessions.
On-call for Thoracic Surgery is a 1 in 7 rota at present (5% frequency payment) with Category A availability.
For full-time appointees the job plan as described will accrue 10 PAs (8.5 DCC, 1. 5SPA) of payments. It will be re-negotiated within 3 months after appointment, with the option to increasing the work of the appointee to 11.5 PAs, if the work is required by the Trust. Again equity of working with the current consultants will be assured.
When the appointee is off-site, cover for the care of patients at LHCH will be provided by colleagues.
Full mentorship will be provided to the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will have full secretarial support, a personal computer (training available if required) and office accommodation in line with other consultants in the unit.
All consultants in the Trust are expected to provide a significant commitment to the training of middle grade and Tier 1 surgeons, and also to research and audit when this is reflected in their job plan.
The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports surgeons going through the revalidation process. All consultants undergo an annual job plan review. The workload of consultants will be driven by the job planning process and will be reviewed and changed as appropriate to the requirements of the Trust by the Surgical Clinical Lead and Divisional Head of Operations with ratification by the Medical Director.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early. Therefore, interested applicants are advised to apply as early as possible.
Please review the job description and person specification carefully before applying to ensure that you meet the essential requirements for the post.
All applicants will be contacted and informed by email whether they were successfully shortlisted for interview.
As part of you pre-employment checks we will be required to obtain satisfactory references. We require at least one written reference from your current or most recent employer. We are only able to accept references from a professional work email address.
From April 2017 the Government plans to extend the requirement to provide a criminal record certificate to Tier 2 visa applicants coming to work in Education, Health and Social Care sectors and to their adult dependants.
If you are a Tier 2 visa applicant and you are coming to work in an occupation defined by the relevant Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code, you will be required to provide a criminal record certificate from any country you have lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years, this is also applicable for your adult dependants.
Employers are expected to implement the Care Certificate for all applicable new starters from April 2015. The Care Certificate aims to equip health and social care support workers with the knowledge and skills which they need to provide safe, compassionate care. We expect all new starters in clinical, patient facing posts (bands 1-4) to complete all 15 standards of the Care Certificate, within their first 6 months with the Trust.
Flexible Working applications will be considered in line the Trusts flexible working policies.
The Trust is a no-smoking site.
We reserve the right to close adverts earlier than the closing date should we receive sufficient applications and so urge you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Please use UKVI guidance on Skilled Worker Visas to determine whether you would be eligible for sponsorship if you were to gain a conditional offer for this role.
