Full Job Description

Education Boutique is seeking an experienced SEN/SEMH tutor to provide 1:1 academic tuition to a Year 11 learner who is currently disengaged from education. The focus will be on supporting English, Maths, and potentially Science, while also helping develop key social and behavioural skills to improve engagement and emotional regulation.

The ideal tutor will have experience working with learners with complex SEMH needs, including those with trauma-related backgrounds, challenging behaviours, and difficulties with authority and social interactions.,

  • Working below age expectations (KS3/KS4 level), but has some functional literacy and numeracy skills and is articulate when expressing emotions.
  • Struggles with authority, large groups, and structured environments, preferring a more engaging and controlled approach rather than direct instructions.
  • Has a history of trauma related to emotional abuse, is under Child Protection (CP), and has previously gone missing due to poor awareness of personal safety.
  • Can exhibit challenging behaviours, including being verbally abusive when dysregulated, controlling/manipulative at times, and overly chatty with difficulty recognising boundaries.
  • However, thrives on positive reinforcement, praise, and strong adult relationships. Described as brilliant when engaged and is particularly creative, enjoying art, hair, and makeup.
  • Tutor Requirements
  • Experience in SEN/SEMH education, particularly working with learners with challenging behaviours and trauma-informed needs.
  • Ability to engage, control, and inform while maintaining a consistent and structured approach aligned with the school's curriculum.
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a patient, empathetic, and relationship-focused approach.
  • Ability to build rapport before focusing on academic progress, incorporating breaks and engagement strategies.
  • Previous experience supporting learners with social skills development, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
  • Role Objectives (By the end of Key Stage 4, the learner should be able to:)
  • Sustain a friendship group and navigate social interactions effectively.
  • Learn to repair relationships independently after minor conflicts.
  • Achieve qualifications in English and Maths to support a post-16 vocational or career pathway.
