Full Job Description
As a Countryside Access Officer you will cover the everyday work undertaken by Countryside Access. This includes safeguarding the Authority to ensure it is fulfilling its duty under the Highways Act of 'Ensuring all public rights of way are in a safe and usable condition' on the 2100km of network that is managed directly. The work will involve undertaking condition surveys and recording of the rights of way networks throughout Westmorland and Furness as well as liaising with contractors, landowners, members of the public and agencies such as Natural England.
We are currently looking for friendly and self-motivated candidates to join the Countryside Access team in Westmorland and Furness.
This role is responsible for undertaking regular surveys of the public rights of way within the council area, liaising with members of the public and other staff and arranging for works to be undertaken on the rights of way network.
We are looking for someone who can ensure that a culture of performance, safety and quality is embedded across the service and provide support to others to ensure this is managed effectively. You will need to be able to work well on your own, managing your own workloads and collaborating with others as part of a larger county wide team and with other teams within the county., Ideal applicants will be committed to personal development and willing to undertake additional training as required. You will have good knowledge of Public Rights of Way (PROW) legislation regarding maintenance and definitive map as well as experience of managing projects from conception to completion. We are looking for someone who can fit into the team and potentially take on an area of specialism which could be working with volunteers or doing definitive map work. The work will require you to conduct site visits across Westmorland and Furness and to hold a current UK driving license.
