Full Job Description

Targeted Lung Health Check Programme (TLHC) programme forms part of the NHS Long Term Plan to improve early diagnosis and survival for those diagnosed with cancer in the UK.

It targets those most at risk of lung cancer and will initially work with CCGs who have some of the highest rates of mortality from lung cancer.

People aged over 55 years old but less than 75 years old that have ever smoked will be invited to a free lung check.

Following the lung health check, those assessed as high risk will be offered a low dose CT scan. It is estimated that approximately 3,400 cancers will be found - many earlier than they would have done otherwise - and the NHS will be able to offer more treatments, such as curative surgery which will save people's lives.

These roles are enlarge the existing small team working for the Manchester Foundation Trust and closely with our service providers Cobalt to provide a high quality service. Part of the role will involve assisting the lead radiologist with review of previous imaging, involvement with MDT and onwards diagnostics.

To be part of a dedicated small specialised team working closely with Targeted Lung Health check (TLHC) screening Programme service for CT service across all sites to ensure a consistent approach to service delivery is used, working closely with managed service provider Cobalt, to ensure patient flow is maximised and the resource is used efficiently and effectively.

The post holder will have a keen interest in thoracic radiology and will need to work closely with the Thoracic team and RAPID hub. These roles support the developing TLHC Programme, working for the Trust but in close liaison with the service provider to ensure a high quality service is provided. There is a need to be able to work independently to justify referrals, manage workloads in a specialised thoracic area and and liaising with Principal CT radiographer in main department about onwards diagnostics from the screening programme. The post holder will need to be proficient in radiation protection measures and procedures.

Working closely with lead radiologist to review previous scans images to see if images suitable or further imaging needed on attendance at screening, attend MDT, support service, work closely with the thoracics team to provide ION biopsy sessions. Further development of advanced CT practice is also being considered to support the onwards diagnostics and biopsy services.
