Database Solutions Specialist - Oracle

The Database Solutions Specialist (DSS) is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of Oracle Servers databases. This role ensures the optimal performance, security, and availability of databases to support organizational objectives and business needs. As part of the Compute Services & Cloud Team, the DSS will work closely with development teams, system administrators, and other IT professionals to optimize database performance, implement best practices, and troubleshoot issues., Database Design and Implementation

Plan and execute installations, upgrades, and migrations including cloud ones. Standardize management to enhance system administration and operational efficiency. Collaborate with developers to design and optimize schemas, queries, and indexes.

System Administration

Enhance infrastructure for better performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Use monitoring tools to proactively address performance issues. Resolve bottlenecks and tune queries, indexes, and configurations.

Security and Compliance

Implement and maintain security best practices. Perform regular updates, patches, and security configurations. Minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.

Maintenance and Support

Provide support for database issues, including on-call support. Monitor growth and plan for future capacity. Offer technical support and troubleshooting for internal teams. Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps., Additional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.

Professional Experience

3-4 years of experience as Oracle Database Specialist or similar role.

Technical Expertise

Strong knowledge of Oracle Server architecture, administration, and performance tuning.

Experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and database security best practices. Experience in query tuning, index optimization, and performance troubleshooting.

Cloud Migrations and Centralizations:

Knowledge of cloud-based database services, architecture, and best practices for scalability and performance. Proven experience in migrating databases to cloud platforms or cetrnalizations. Ability to plan and execute database centralization projects.

Certifications and Additional Skills

ITIL Certification (highly desirable)

Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) (highly desirable)

Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate (highly desirable), Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
