Full Job Description
The Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) invites applications for the post of Departmental Lecturer in Migration and Development. This is a fixed-term role for one academic year needed to cover the maternity leave of one member of the teaching team of the MSc in Migration Studies, a degree jointly run by ODID and Oxford's School of Anthropology (SAME).,
- Teaching on the MSc in Migration Studies degree (the MSc). This includes one core course to approximately 30 students (Migration and Development and one optional course (10-15 students) based on research specialisation and complementarity with other courses.
- Supervising 4-5 MSc students.
- Engaging in university examining and assessment.
- Participating in the graduate student admissions process
- Participating in all aspects of the administration of the MSc in Migration Studies
- Managing own academic research activities. This post is offered full time and fixed term for 12 months beginning in September 2025.
In advance of the appointment period, the successful applicant will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant social science discipline, with a strong focus on migration or other forms of human mobility. They will also have the requisite experience to instruct high-achieving and challenging graduate students in a multi-disciplinary environment including student assessments, examinations, and course design. A strong knowledge of issues relevant to migration studies, and the ability to lead a course on migration and development essential for this role.
