Deputy Sister / Deputy Charge Nurse

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our senior nursing team within Pre- Operative Assessment as a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse. The successful candidate will have a passion to inspire and motivate others to provide high quality safe patient focused care., You must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill for leading a team and utilisation of excellent organisational and clinical skills.

You will be expected to co-ordinate care on the department and deputise and support the Nursing Sister.

Ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients and, in collaboration with the Ward Manager, identify the common issues which affect the quality of care, devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings. In collaboration with the Ward Managers, ensure that the patient has a satisfactory experience by evaluating patient process and the pathway of care. Support the Ward Managers in ensuring clinical audit takes place in line with the Trust's requirements to improve practice. Being a point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff acting as a resource for problems, needs and able to clearly present the patient's view to others. Support the Ward Managers in ensuring the development and on-going management of work rosters that provide appropriate safe staff cover. This post is essential to safe and effective running of the Pre- Operative assessment departments as the role entails delivery of direct patient care as well as ensuring safe and
effective care is delivered by the wider team; this incorporates the provision of emotional support. In addition, this role provides leadership and management support to the Ward Sister and team to ensure safe, effective running of the departments on a daily basis.

We are seeking an aspiring leader who will be supported to inspire staff and provide clinical oversight in the departments whilst fostering a positive culture in our departments. It is essential that you are able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to support the development of the service.

The successful applicant needs to have excellent organisational and time management skills with an aptitude for problem solving. You must have excellent clinical knowledge and skills, demonstrated through completion of competency packages. You will need to be a good communicator, be self-motivated, provide high standards of clinical skills and have the ability to influence and drive innovative practice within a growing and exciting speciality setting.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate creditability and an understanding of working in a Pre-operative setting.
