Full Job Description

The role holder will lead on day-to-day delivery of Active Travel England’s communications, digital and engagement function, performing a range of duties across digital communications, media monitoring, publications, website content management and stakeholder engagement.
Active Travel England’s key aim is that 50% of trips in England’s towns and cities are made by walking, wheeling or cycling by 2030. In order to achieve this, it is imperative that the agency works closely with government departments and agencies, local authorities, charities, developers, plus a range of private sector organisations. Active travel has a role to play in several government priority agendas including economic growth, levelling up, net zero and health. Effective communications and stakeholder management will be critical in achieving Active Travel England’s aims.
Working to the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager, the role holder will be required to be a digital, website development and content management, communications and engagement all-rounder, working effectively across a range of outputs. The post holder will need experience of digital content management as well as excellent communications skills and will be required to take part in an on-call rota for media enquiries.
The role holder will work closely with the regional engagement team, the planning team and the inspectorate team to ensure that local authorities feel supported and to flag any resources or tools needed to help them deliver effectively. Working to help produce tools and resources, alongside other members of the communications team, will also be required for this role.
The post holder will also be required to produce regular briefings for meetings and events as well as evaluation reports for Active Travel England’s senior engagement team and more widely for the Department for Transport. There will also be a requirement to fulfil event management responsibilities.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
+ Daily content management of Active Travel England’s website and evaluating outputs on our social media platforms (X, Instagram and LinkedIn).
+ Delivering ATE’s digital communications strategy, including helping to create compelling content and considering how we can maximise reach.
+ Handling media requests, including being on-call outside working hours as part of a regular rota.
+ Evaluating communications and stakeholder engagement activity, collecting and analysing data, generating meaningful findings, and feeding them into the development of future plans.
+ Developing and hosting ATE’s webinar series, sourcing appropriate engaging speakers and maintaining high attendance rates.
+ Being responsible for all digital content, communications and engagement evaluation, including producing regular reports for the senior management team.
+ Leading on the ATE website development using the Drupal content management system.
+ Ensuring accessibility criteria is met across the whole range of communications.
+ Working flexibly as part of the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement team to take on projects and tasks as necessary to support colleagues, including event management.
+ Occasionally attending visits to support the CEO and Commissioner when needed to develop digital content.
+ Developing and managing digital communications, including social media, the new website, videography, imagery and brand.
