Full Job Description

As part of the Digital Business senior leadership team - reporting to the VP of Digital Business - the Director of Trading and Operations is accountable for developing and executing Burberry's trading plan across Burberry's digital DTC channels to ensure they support Burberry's E-commerce strategy. The role will also play a key part in ensuring the Digital team is working closely and effectively with all Regional Leadership and Digital teams, collaborating on strategic and financial planning, and working with many teams across the business - in particular with Senior Leadership Team, Merchandising, Marketing, Commercial, Supply Chain, Finance, Digital Buying & Merchandising, Digital Content Operations, Digital Third Parties, Digital Platforms, Digital Regional lead (e.g., China), and PMO - to develop and execute their plan. The Trading and Operations Director will have previous trading experience, and a deep understanding of Ecommerce and Omni channel operations The Director of Trading & Operations is an experienced leader and people manager with a proven track record in leading a high performing, fast paced team, and fostering a positive working culture. This role will set the highest standards in terms of hiring, training and development, retention, and employee satisfaction. They are expected to act as a mentor and coach for their team helping them to drive exceptional performance.,

  • Taking an active hands-on role across all responsibilities (see below), which at times requires working with colleagues across all levels to understand in full the details of the task at hand.
  • Developing a deep understanding of Burberry's E-commerce and Digital Platforms strategic ambitions, and a deep understanding of Burberry's annual plans / calendar across Marketing, Digital Merchandising, Commercial, and Digital Platforms.
  • Supporting the development of the Burberry's Digital DTC strategy - in particular:
  • o Identifying and prioritising strategic levers by region that enable trading capabilities; o Defining sales targets and other KPI (e.g., availability, content readiness) for DTC, and their respective targets;
  • Setting and owning the annual sales target and other KPI targets for Digital DTC, in collaboration with Digital Finance.
  • Translating financial forecasts into a seasonal trading plans that consider performance media budget, stock requirements, OTB's and overall P&L.
  • Presenting the Digital business performance, strategy, opportunities and dependencies at Regional President level.
  • Providing presentations to support the Digital Leadership when presenting to CEO, ExCo and Board.
  • Developing and owning the global Digital DTC trade plan that maximises the commercial opportunity of Burberry's product assortment, which will require engaging and collaborating with teams - in particular:
  • o Working with the Digital Buying & Merchandising team to ensure the trade plan is aligned with the product strategy and roadmap; o Collaborating with the Marketing team and Digital Content Operations team to ensure that performance media and content (i.e. Tier A to D) priorities support the trade plan and publishing process runs smoothly (e.g., home page and landing page designs; model styling guidance; PDP copy review); o Collaborating with Finance team to set annual sales targets by region (incl. retail equation), and tracking performance through weekly, monthly and quarterly reports; o Ensuring alignment of trade priorities with Burberry's offline channels through co-ordination with the Commercial team (incl. Regional Presidents); o Identifying emerging in-season trends that can create new commercial opportunities, and developing the required trade actions to capture these opportunities; o Tracking and ensuring Tier D content readiness, incl. prioritisation of content when needed; o Partnering with the Supply Chain team to support the development of their OTD to warehouse of Newness and availability of Carry Forward and Replen strategies supports trade; o Partnering with the Digital Platforms team to develop their strategy and prioritisation to ensure this supports sales acceleration; o Ensuring buy-in on the DTC trade plan from key stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate and maintain transparency of the Digital DTC trade plan and performance to a wide spectrum of audiences from internal stakeholders to product teams - incl. weekly and monthly trading meetings, quarterly business reviews, and annual trade plans.
  • Monitoring industry developments in the retail space with a focus on luxury industry, and disruptive trends.
  • Developing a deep understanding of how customer behaviours are evolving and how it changes the meaning of luxury shopping and servicing.
  • Grow, nurture and develop the Digital Trading & Operations team.

    Extensive digital commerce experience with considerable experience running DTC operations - developing and executing an end-to-end trade plan.
  • Proven track record in senior stakeholder management at ExCo level.
  • Previous experience in finance planning building and forecasts essential.
  • Experience in delivering commercial growth and operating across multiple disciplines to drive performance.
  • Experience in developing and setting detailed sales targets, and preparing trade performance review packs for a wide spectrum of audiences incl. ExCo.
  • Ability to analyse the detail but to also communicate key business initiatives in an elevated way.
  • Strong analytical thinker and good commercial acumen.
  • Able to use analytics to drive performance and informal seasonal trading plans.
  • Demonstrates high commercial instinct and passion for product.
  • Able to successfully work cross-functionally at all levels and within a matrix environment.
  • Experience of delivering in a high energy/ fast paced /changing environment.
