Full Job Description

The Role: Supporting Excellence in Hostel Operations As a Duty Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the management of an operational budget and the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). You will also be engaged in various customer-facing duties across the hostel, ensuring all guests and visitors have an outstanding YHA experience.,

  • Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Utilising our systems for efficient guest check-ins, check-outs and other management functions.
  • Carrying out cleaning and housekeeping duties, maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for our guests.
  • Assisting in the kitchen and serving food and drinks with warmth and hospitality, enhancing the dining experience, while engaging in authentic, inclusive conversations. Suggesting enjoying dinner with us or offering a beverage or dessert as you assist with table service, ensuring a diverse and welcoming experience for all guests.
  • Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.

    Based a short walk from Canterbury City centre we are looking for an organised Duty Manager with a great work ethic to join our friendly team. Our bustling Youth Hostel provides accommodation to educational and sporting groups from around the world, we are also popular with families and individual backpacker travellers as a gateway hostel to the rest of our wonderful England & Wales network. This role includes working in all key areas of the operation, including catering, reception and housekeeping. Training will be provided but previous experience in leadership and hospitality would be advantageous. Shifrs within our working week can start from 6.30am or finish at 11pm, therefore a reliance upon public transport is not ideal., Our Duty Manager role requires flexibility to cover different shifts and tasks. While prior experience in a face-to-face customer service role is an advantage, it's not essential. However, experience in hospitality or customer service, especially in managing and delivering high-quality service, is highly beneficial.
  • Desirable qualifications include Food Safety Level 2 and APLH Level 2, but they are not mandatory. Essential requirements include experience in managing varying pressures, including significant workload demands, and team management. We highly value lived experiences just as much as previous skills and knowledge. We offer a comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and further development. While some of our roles may have specific skills requirements, we encourage team members from diverse backgrounds to apply. Good communication skills and basic IT proficiency are advantageous, and excellent time management is essential in our dynamic environment.
