Full Job Description

Worcestershire County Council is looking to appoint an officer, to join our busy Trading Standards team. You will need to be a flexible and highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills. Previous experience of working in the area of scams and doorstep crime is a must. Your primary responsibility will be helping us to discharge an externally funded project to increase the level of support for scam and doorstep crime victims, building partnerships, promoting Friends Against Scams and other initiatives across the County. However, you may need to take on some investigative work in this area and assist with other activities of the service. You will be working with partners and colleagues at a local and potentially at regional level, and so experience of partnership working and influencing would be advantageous. Whilst your primary responsibility will be the delivery of the project outcomes, you will be expected to assist in the enforcement of a wide range of Trading Standards legislation, mainly related to Fair Trading but food enforcement competence would also be desirable. You may be asked to investigate complex legislative breaches, involving execution of warrants, surveillance, preparing case files and presenting evidence in court. You will also need to have knowledge of relevant legal requirements, including PACE, CPIA and RIPA. If you have a relevant Trading Standards professional qualification with the right competencies, then this position could be the exciting opportunity that you are looking for. You will need to be able to travel across the county as part of these duties for which a casual car allowance is available and some evening and weekend working will be required.
