Full Job Description

Your role will be to support Denise with day-to-day activities as needed. At times, this may include supporting with elements of personal care. This will also include supporting Denise with domestic tasks for her, as well as the family, assisting with the children's meals when needed, helping to build her confidence with being a mum and supporting her with childcare as required, she has 3 children, 2 in secondary school and 1 in nursery. Your role will also include driving and supporting Denise at her Ice Hockey training and assisting with any therapy based activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join a dedicated family and develop existing skills and support this very special lady. Pay and Benefits: £15.50 per hour Weekdays and £16.50 per hour Weekends. 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata Pension (subject to qualifying status) Free DBS check.   • A Handling Management Plan designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries may require you to bend, kneel, squat or lunge to ensure good posture during handling tasks. Experience/understanding of mental health issues. Confident about working in client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the parents in managing the house and supporting the care needs of their children. Happy to learn new things -Training will be given. Flexible and able to use own initiative. Patient and tolerant. Proactive, encouraging approach. Responsible attitude. Good sense of humour. Cheerful, caring and positive attitude. Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator. The ability to learn new skills. Flexible - to help with the other children in the family and general running of the household as and when the need arises. Confident with using I.T Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation Proactive approach to developing an appropriate range of activities. Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy. Happy to learn new things in accordance with the client's programme Aptitude and desire to work with clients with complex needs. Flexible there may be some occasions where the client may need you to start earlier or finish later but prior notice will be given. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills Ensure consistency of approach. Willing to travel. Full clean driving license and able to drive the clients adapted vehicle.     Days & Hours: Various Hours available for Full time, Part Time or Bank. Typical shifts are Monday-Friday 7am-7pm, Sat & Sun 8am-12pm and every other Sunday 5pm-1.45am (the Sunday evening hours are to assist Denise with her Ice Hockey training). Hours will be worked in line with the rolling rota, shift availability will be discussed at telephone interview stage. This role will be on a fixed term basis for 6 months with the possibility of extension or to become permanent. Pay: £15.50 per hour Weekdays and £16.50 per hour Weekends. Driver required? Essential (will need own car to get to work) Driving Clients Car? Yes, Denise's wheelchair adapted vehicle. Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend trainings Essential Experience: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy Desirable: Experience in managing Spinal injury, pain and fatigue Pets: 2 dogs Accommodation (while on duty): Partially adapted family home Interviews Week Commencing: Interviews will happen on a rolling basis. Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks) Denise, born in 1988 considers family to be very important to her. She has a keen interest in sport and exercise and is a member of the GB Paralympics ice hockey team for which she has regular training and matches. Denise was injured during a rugby match in October 2017. As a result of the accident and sustained severe injuries including a T10, spinal cord injury which has been classified as ASIA B, paraplegia. She also has a diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome and suffers fatigue. Denise is independently mobile in her manual wheelchair and all basic wheelchair skills and a majority of advanced skills, she is independent with all transfers.
