Full Job Description

  • Plan, deliver, and assess Food Technology lessons for students across KS5, adapting content to meet a range of learning abilities
  • Teach essential life skills, including food preparation, nutrition, hygiene, and safety in the kitchen
  • Incorporate independent living skills and employability opportunities into lessons, supporting students' preparation for adulthood
  • Develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans tailored to individual learning needs and EHCP targets
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment, managing risk assessments for practical cooking activities
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and other specialists to provide a holistic approach to student development
  • Assess and track student progress, providing meaningful feedback and reports to parents, carers, and senior leadership
  • Support students in achieving relevant qualifications, including BTEC, ASDAN, or equivalent vocational awards in Food Technology
  • Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student learning and progression
  • Promote the school's ethos of inclusivity, independence, and practical learning to help students develop confidence in real-world situations

    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification, including FE experienced candidates
  • Experience teaching Food Technology or a related subject within a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) setting
  • Knowledge of differentiated teaching strategies to support a wide range of learning abilities
  • Strong understanding of food safety, nutrition, and health & safety regulations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • A passion for supporting young people with SEND to develop independence and life skills
  • Desirable:
  • Experience delivering vocational qualifications (BTEC, ASDAN, or similar)
  • Experience up to A-Level
  • Additional training in SEND, autism awareness, or differentiated instruction
  • Familiarity with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and how to implement them in teaching
