Fuels Distribution System Mechanic - If you are a dedicated and skilled individual with a passion for excellence, we invite you to join our team at the United States Air Force, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron, RAF Lakenheath We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience in maintaining, inspecting, installing, repairing, replacing, and modifying liquid fuel storage and distribution systems and their electrical components. Why RAF Lakenheath: Located in the heart of Suffolk, RAF Lakenheath is home to the 48th Civil Engineer Squadron. This base is pivotal in maintaining international security and fostering strong alliances between the US and UK. Our team is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and the highest standards of operational readiness., You will be responsible for inspecting and testing fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities and perform preventive maintenance on fuel systems and components. You will perform all phases of liquid fuel system and component maintenance including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification as well as troubleshoots and repairs problems in the electrical components of liquid fuel distribution systems. You will participate in cleaning the interior surface of bulk storage tanks, above and below ground, by entering tanks. In this position you will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. For this position you will be require passing a pre-employment physical which will be conducted at RAF Lakenheath. Your hours of work will be 39 hours per week on a fixed schedule Mon-Fri 0730-1600 where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.

You will have knowledge of fuel distribution and storage systems; of the physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels; and of preventive maintenance and inspection techniques as applied to fuel distribution and storage systems. You will show knowledge of the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical components such as electric motors, disconnect switches, starters, contactors, solenoids, and magnetic switches as well as knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices. You will show skill in calibration of fuel dispensing systems and tank and pressure gauges, skill in techniques used to measure, cut, thread, join, and fit piping and tubing. You will also have the ability to analyze deficiencies and diagnose malfunctions of system components such as automatic control valves, pumps, flow meters, etc.,

  • such as automatic control valves. NVQ/City and Guilds Level 2 Welding and Mechanical Engineering certification, or HND/HNC/BTEC , is desirable.

  • valid UK driver's Category B driving license required. Certificates must be submitted for your application to be valid. Other significant facts about the role: You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Shift work may be required. You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evening, weekends, and/or holidays. The work may require for you to be certified in the use of a respirator as well as to be certified and qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair. All successful applicants will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
