Full Job Description

To assist the provision of a high standard of therapy service to patients within the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital Trust hand therapy department. To undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the department and service. To assist the therapist to carry out delegated duties. To treat own delegated workload of patients and maintain associated patient records. To assist in the administration and clerical duties of the department.,

  • To carry out and prioritise own caseload of patients with simple predictable conditions using set clinical protocols, when competency obtained. Ability to work with minimal or no immediate supervision - using initiative. To use own clinical judgement and knowledge in regards to progressing and/or adapting treatment programmes within agreed clinical protocols and parameters. To assist the therapist with individual and group treatments/exercise and/or clinics. To lead rehabilitation / education groups under guidance from therapists. To demonstrate an awareness and an ability to manage clinical risk. To comply with the Health and Safety Regulations. To attend mandatory annual training.

  • Management:
  • To be responsible for competent use and maintenance of all equipment used, to report defects in equipment. To maintain stocks of equipment. To assist with non-clinical induction of assistants and students as required. Responsible for maintenance of accurate patient records using appropriate/current information systems

  • Communication:
  • To be able to motivate and persuade patients through effective communication skills. Ability to communicate information where there may be barriers to communication and or understanding. To report regularly to clinical team lead. To liaise with members of the MDT (multi-disciplinary team) with regard to patient care. To liaise with managers, other administrative and support staff as necessary to ensure the smooth running of the department. To attend any meetings as appropriate.

  • Education:
  • To participate in an annual PDR To attend and participate in monthly assistant-specific training To attend and participate in monthly supervision and competency training

  • Research and Audit:
  • To participate in departmental audit

    We have one of the most ambitious capital investment programmes anywhere in the NHS., We are looking for a Band 3 Hand Therapy assistant to work within the Hand Therapy team at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital.
    You will be part of a large hand therapy team working closely with the qualified occupational and physio-therapists and 2 additional hand therapy assistants.
    The role involves leading rehabilitation 1:1 sessions and education groups with patients, independently managing a caseload of patients under guidance of a qualified hand therapist, You will support with administrative tasks including stock and equipment management. You will participate in monthly training, PDR and supervision. Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust therapies Directorate provides fully comprehensive range of therapy services.
