Prince Henry's High School
Prince Henry's has an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher with a track record as an excellent classroom practitioner to join our Science Department as the Head of Science. We require a well-qualified teacher of any specialism with the ability to teach up to A Level. The department has an excellent record of student progress and exam results. The successful candidate will be committed to the highest standards of academic achievement and behaviour and will genuinely enjoy working with students of all abilities across Key Stages 3 to 5, demonstrating a passion for Science education.
The Science Department at Prince Henry's High School offers a curriculum that aims to engage and challenge students of all abilities at all levels. It is full of wonder and enthusiasm making our students confident and willing to engage with science related material and problems. As a department of Science specialists, we aim to create a climate in which students can thrive both academically and personally.
The Science curriculum offers the chance to consider the world around us; look to see how materials work and interact, how our bodies work and how we stay alive as well as how the laws of forces and motion affect our lives. Practical work is firmly embedded into the Science curriculum and gives students the opportunity, in 11 recently refurbished laboratories, to find out relationships between variables, drawing conclusions from patterns in their data and evaluating these.
We believe that this post offers an excellent opportunity for job satisfaction and, with Prince Henry's status as a Teaching School Hub, for personal and professional development. We place a great emphasis upon staff wellbeing and support, and the school's culture is underpinned by qualities such as acceptance, courtesy, determination, discipline, equality, fairness, friendship, integrity, loyalty, resilience, respect, tolerance and understanding that are embraced by the whole school community. The school's mission is to create and develop the very best Teaching and Learning environment for all our students and staff based upon sound universal values.
The school has been oversubscribed for several years, and it is a feature of our intake that the very great majority of our students wish to do well and are supported by an exceptional team of teaching, pastoral and support staff, work hard to achieve this.
Prince Henry's offers a full programme of extra-curricular activities made possible by the outstanding commitment of members of staff. The successful candidate will be most welcome to contribute to the school's general programme of extra-curricular activities. Science staff are passionate about offering opportunities outside of the curriculum with a number of clubs, trips and competitions run each year ranging from VEX Robotics to Olympiads.
