Full Job Description
To undertake research into, complete and make publicly accessible the documentation of the Asian collections in support of the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies. Key areas of responsibility:
- To make the Asia collection, and knowledge about it, publicly accessible via research and documentation
- In close collaboration with Asia Collections Manager and team and Asia curators, to focus on completing and upgrading the documentation of the Asia collection via MI+, ODIN and COL
- To locate objects in storage, checking locations on MI+ are correct and take and upload photographs as necessary, working with Asia curators and collections management team
- To act as an advocate for the Museum
- To work as a team member with colleagues within and beyond the department, and do some departmental administrative work
- To collaborate and to develop or ensure good relations with relevant stakeholders
- To assist in the general day-to-day running of the department
BA/BSc (or equivalent) in relevant subject - Specialist knowledge of an area of South or Southeast Asian collection
- Experience and knowledge of collections documentation and storage issues and systems
- Research skills
- Some experience of management issues (people, projects, budgets)
- Experience of research and documentation of Asian museum collections
- Open, effective communicator with good spoken and written English
- Ability to work as part of a team
