Full Job Description

This diverse and engaging role ensures that no two days are alike. Responsibilities span across inspections, audits, accident investigations, fire safety drills, risk assessments, and compiling safety reports. You will work closely with staff at all levels, offering expert advice and driving positive health and safety practices across the College. Key responsibilities for this role include managing the College's risk management system, assisting with staff risk assessments, and delivering health and safety training. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving health and safety procedures, liaising with suppliers for cost-effective safety equipment, and providing clear, actionable health and safety data to department heads. Your role will also involve managing stress-related risk assessments, leading fire safety training, and overseeing business continuity planning, including disaster recovery and business impact analysis. Additionally, you will contribute to implementing and monitoring the College's quality systems and undertake duties aligned with the role's grade and responsibilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the safety and well-being of a thriving college community.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused professional with a passion for health and safety to join our team. In this role, you'll help create a safe and secure environment for our vibrant and diverse college community. You'll need a recognised qualification in health and safety, such as a NEBOSH Certificate, along with a solid understanding of current legislation and best practices. Experience in a similar role, ideally within a complex, multi-site organisation like an educational or public-sector setting, would make you a great fit. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to provide clear and practical advice and training to staff at all levels, helping to foster a positive culture of safety across the College. Strong analytical skills will also be key, enabling you to carry out effective risk assessments, analyse data, and produce insightful reports to guide our decision-making. With plenty of variety in your day, you'll need to bring top-notch organisational and problem-solving abilities to juggle tasks such as audits, inspections, and business continuity planning. You'll have the chance to tackle challenges head-on, implement meaningful safety improvements, and make a real difference.   • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification)
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a health and safety role
  • Proven experience in accident investigations, audits, and inspections
  • Preferred
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, supporting the department in delivering key health and safety objectives
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks efficiently, Disability Confident
