We work on projects of all sizes, scopes and scales, from the large M25 Project to the niche Human Drive. Our projects are bringing digitalisation to highways and transforming the way people live and work. And you'll be part of these collaborative design teams based across the country and the world. It's an exciting era for UK highways, with the rise of intelligent networks, autonomous technology and mobility as a service. To lead in emerging areas that interest you, all you need to do is speak up and take the initiative. We are looking for an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join our practice in Cambridge or Chelmsford (you will be able to work remotely for up to 3 days a week). Your purpose:
- Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
- Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models (as and where applicable).
- Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Be accountable for checking, certifying, and authorising for issue: designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
- Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages - coordinating engineering resources.
- Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver schemes/projects.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
- Be responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs and production of contract documents across a variety of projects.
- Work together with the team and other disciplines in providing an integrated service to clients.
- Help seek innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services.
- Provide technical support and leadership where required.
A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer. - Demonstrable and significant experience in highway design working in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other standards/best practice guidance.
- An understanding of the commercial aspects of project delivery.
- An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
- NEC and/or Project Management experience (advantageous).
