Lancashire is the fourth largest local authority in England, covering a vast geographic area with diverse urban and rural communities. Our remit is substantial, varied, and complex, but our purpose is simple: to serve the people of Lancashire by working efficiently and innovatively to prioritise the services they need and want.
Join us as a Highways Enquiries Officer to help build a better Lancashire.
In this role, you will manage and administer the highway casework of County Council Members and Councillors. You will respond to customer complaints and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, escalating matters when necessary. Collaborating with the wider district team, you will ensure issues are thoroughly investigated and take a customer-focused approach when communicating outcomes.
These roles are predominantly home-based with occasional travel to County Hall or our Cuerden Depot in Bamber Bridge. We offer great flexibility to ensure you maintain a work-life balance that's right for you. These roles are available on a flexible basis, with working hours ranging from 20 to 37 hours per week, depending on your needs. This will be discussed at the interview.
These are fixed-term roles due to end in December 2025.
What We Are Looking For:
- Ability to thrive in a target-driven environment and multitask to ensure deadlines are met with high-quality responses.
- Passion for customer service, ensuring a high-quality customer experience where customers are treated with empathy and consideration.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Political awareness and a clear understanding of the county council as an organization and our responsibilities to county council members.
- Whilst not essential, it would be beneficial if applicants held experience managing complaints.

For an informal chat, please contact Samantha Mason at Samantha.mason@lancashire.gov.uk, who would be happy to arrange this for you.
