Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an HR Apprentice in the Department of Continuing Education. You will join our busy, supportive and expanding HR team and you will be provided with the opportunity to develop full knowledge of the HR lifecycle, from planning recruitment and on-boarding new staff, to the end of fixed-term contracts and retirement planning. You will work closely with the two teams supporting both employees as well as our community of causal tutors. You will work to support the HR Manager and Tutor Liaison Officer with onboarding/induction and payroll, reward and recognition, employee relations, and engagement. You will regularly interact with all members of the department and will learn to provide advice on university procedures and policies covering a range of issues such as employee welfare, maternity/paternity and absence management. You will provide a professional, high-quality customer-focused service. The HR Office deals with a high volume of activity, and you will have to be adaptable, organised, a good communicator and a team player. During your time with us, you will gain skills and experience both in the workplace and through the completion of a course of study. Appropriate objectives will be set during your Apprenticeship and you will be assigned a mentor to oversee your development. About the apprenticeship As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon & Witney College, where you will complete a Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship. For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Department of Continuing Education in both Rewley House and Ewert House in central Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon & Witney College (locations in either Abingdon or Witney depending on the successful candidate's preference). During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend Abingdon or Witney 1 day a week. In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.   • -C in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent). Regardless of prior qualifications, Abingdon & Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.

    Our apprentices are never on their own, you will benefit from a supportive environment working in collaboration with the rest of our committed team. You will also be supported by the central apprenticeship team and you will join our growing network of apprentices within the university.
