Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Family Support worker to join our Intensive Family Well Being Team in the South Locality of Weston-super-Mare. The Intensive Family Well Being Team are responsible for supporting families with children 0-19 who are experiencing difficulties, referred through the children`s front door. We work with professional partners, schools, and health colleagues to support children, young people, and their families within our communities. We offer parenting groups, courses and one to one work in the home.

In this role, you will work intensively with a small number of families, using evidence-based methods of intervention to support positive change for children, young people and their families. You will form purposeful relationships with families, working in a strengths-based way, using Signs of Safety to support families to keep their children safe, develop their parenting skills and improve school attendance. You will also support families to access appropriate specialist support, such as drug and alcohol services, or mental health services etc as necessary. You will work as part of a team providing specialist interventions and provide advocacy for the family as required, Build effective and purposeful relationships with parents, children and young people.
Work in partnership with other agencies and social workers to assess and plan appropriate support, regularly reviewing family's interrelated strengths, resources, needs and risks using a Signs of Safety and a trauma informed approach.
Complete accurate and up-to-date records in line with our recording policy using the Early Help System to complete assessments, plans with families and case recording.
Act as key worker/lead professional for families, attend meetings with the family, including Child Protection Conferences, Children in Care and Children in Need reviews as required.
Carry out the duties and responsibilities under a range of legislation
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role., We are looking for an individual who is passionate about children and young people getting the right help at the right time, about listening to their voice, and about working in partnership with families and wider networks. If you have the following attributes as a Family Support worker and who possesses the following skills and experience then we would very much like to hear from you, A NVQ Level 3 or 4 (or working towards this) or above qualification in caring for children (e.g. Child development, childcare, children & family work) with post qualification experience
Significant relevant experience of working with children and families.
Some experience of acting as a lead professional or key worker for a child or family.
Experience of using IT systems (email, word processing & spreadsheet).
Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing

Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of universal, statutory and voluntary services and their role in promoting the welfare of children, young people and their carers.
Experience of working with adults (group work with adults would be desirable)., Disability Confident
